Google Ads Child Safety policy: what changes for account suspensions on 11 January 2027?

Google’s notice, published on 22 October 2026, confirms two Child Safety enforcement categories from 11 January 2027. Other Child Safety Violations will receive at least seven days of warning before account suspension; content promoting or facilitating child sexual abuse or exploitation retains suspension upon detection without advance warning.

Key Highlights
  • From 11 January 2027, Child Safety becomes a separate Google Ads policy with two enforcement labels.
  • Egregious Child Safety Violations retain suspension upon detection without advance warning.
  • Other Child Safety Violations cover content particularly vulnerable to sexual exploitation misuse, including non sexual depictions of child nudity, with at least seven days of warning before suspension.
  • The warning period does not allow disapproved ads to run or establish an automatic suspension on day seven.
  • Account suspension stops all ads in that account. An appeal remains possible.

Seven days of warning is not seven more days to run a prohibited ad. That is the distinction I'd want everyone managing the account to understand. Google separates ad disapproval from account suspension: a disapproved ad cannot run until the violation is fixed and the ad reviewed. The new warning commitment concerns account suspension, and seven days is the minimum notice, not an automatic deadline.

I welcome the clearer policy structure, but this is not Google introducing immediate suspension for child sexual abuse or exploitation for the first time. That consequence already exists. From 11 January 2027, the separate Child Safety policy will distinguish Egregious Child Safety Violations from Other Child Safety Violations. The latter includes non sexual depictions of child nudity that are particularly vulnerable to misuse. An image does not have to depict sexual activity to fall within that category.

For anyone using imagery of children, this deserves a conversation with the creative team now, not when a warning arrives. Google instructs advertisers to remove affected ads before enforcement begins. The rules also cover fictional and AI generated content, so changing how an image was produced does not take it outside the policy. I'd review the material against the actual wording rather than rely on whether someone internally thinks it looks harmless.

The commercial exposure is bigger than the individual ad. Suspension stops every ad in the account, including campaigns unrelated to the offending content. If those campaigns support a tight sales target, losing them all is a very different problem from replacing one creative. Related accounts and newly created replacement accounts can also face suspension, so moving activity elsewhere is not a safe workaround. An appeal remains possible, but it is not a dependable plan for keeping campaigns running. Getting the review done before January is the practical move here.

Questions people ask

When does the new Google Ads Child Safety policy start?

Google begins enforcing the new Child Safety policy on 11 January 2027. It renames the CSAE policy and separates it from Inappropriate Content, with two enforcement labels. The protections apply globally, cover minors under 18 and include real, fictional and AI generated content across formats.

Does Google Ads give seven days of warning before a child safety suspension?

Under the new policy, Other Child Safety Violations receive a warning at least seven days before account suspension. Egregious Child Safety Violations trigger suspension upon detection without advance warning. The warning does not permit disapproved ads to serve or mean suspension automatically happens on day seven.

Can I appeal a Google Ads account suspension for child safety violations?

Yes. Google considers suspensions permanent unless successfully appealed, and reinstatement requires compelling circumstances, such as a mistake. In the account suspension notification at the top of the screen, select Contact Us to access the appeal form. Some selected advertisers must complete advertiser verification before appealing.
